Family are invisible chains. No matter how far away you are from them , they are always connected even if the chain becomes loose you can never be released by them. I don’t mind these chains because the chains are hot. The heat that makes me push towards my goals, the fire that gets me excited that a new day is here, the light that helps me find my own path, and I guess that burning sensation is love. My family has shown me love since before I was born.
You know my parents were going to call me Delma or Jewel. I love my grandpa, but I do not like the Delma because it reminds me of Velma from Scooby Doo. Although, before I was born he and my grandma got a Visa to go see me, and they had to travel by bus to get to Santa Barbara. It’s close to a four hour drive, and they could’ve taken the wrong way and gone Bakersfield. The only reason they would take such a dangerous decision is that their love for my mother was like nuclear bomb explosion that expanded to the 235 miles it takes to get to her. I even felt that warmth, and even if I can’t remember the day I was born. I still was able to feel their love, their warmth, the tears my mom shed that day. My family brought me into this wonderful world, and there is a lot more family to meet.
Over the years, I’ve met people that didn’t know they were related to us on my father’s side of the family. 10 years ago, my father created a chart that had family from both of my parent’s side of the family. He created it after the death of his grandfather that I think that was the closest my dad ever saw as a father figure. He showed a 100 pages of charts that has all of my family as long with their children to this day, and it has my brother and me in it. My father told me, “Even though I have a good job that is tiring, my family comes first”. Ever since then, my dad told me that I will inherit the graph and the family connections. I have met every single person in the graph, and I can’t wait for the future.
